Can I run a program on a brick through the terminal on the PC?

Through Putty for example..

And, ideally, would like to have running on the brick process with which we could interact. For example: write in the terminal “run” or “forward” – the robot is moving forward, but the terminal continues to accept commands, write “stop” or “turn left” – the robot stop/turn… Or there need not terminal, and some other implementation?

sorry, maybe it was a stupid question. I tried to connect using putty – and it worked. All is good.
